    Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, originally called Willingdon Hospital, was established by the British for their staff and initially had just 54 beds. After India gained independence, the hospital came under the management of the New Delhi Municipal Committee.

    In 1954, control of the hospital was transferred to the Central Government of India.

    Over the years, the hospital has expanded significantly and now has approximately 1,532 beds spread across 30 acres. The facility includes a Nursing Home with 94 beds for CGHS beneficiaries, which also features a Maternity Nursing Home.

    The hospital is fully funded by the Government of India, specifically the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and it does not turn away any emergency patients seeking treatment.
