Flexibility and a passion for chemistry drew Lindsey Groff, a University of Texas pharmacy student, into the world of pharmacy. Today, she’s pursuing her dream of becoming a clinical pharmacist, with a story that began behind the counter of her local pharmacy.
Discovering a Calling
Lindsey first became interested in pharmacy in high school, while working as a cashier in a pharmacy. From her very first day, she knew she had found a profession she would truly enjoy. To confirm her path, she earned her pharmacy technician license and started working more regularly under a pharmacist in charge who became a great mentor.

Career Aspirations
Lindsey aspires to become a clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting and hopes to mentor and guide future pharmacy students as part of her career.
Choosing the Right Pharmacy School
She chose her pharmacy program based on several key factors: the program’s rigor and reputation, the strength of its alumni network, and its proximity to her family.
The Power of Mentorship
Lindsey’s first pharmacist mentor encouraged her to pursue pharmacy school while she was still in high school. Today, she is fortunate to have several mentors who continue to shape her both personally and professionally. Mentorship, she says, is invaluable in the pharmacy world. Pharmacy is a small, close-knit community, and finding a mentor who is genuinely invested in your future can make a big difference.
Life as a Pharmacy Student
One of Lindsey’s favorite aspects of pharmacy school is the opportunity to think creatively when solving patient cases in a safe learning environment. There are often multiple approaches to addressing complex healthcare problems.
She collaborates frequently with her peers through lab work, classroom discussions, and student organizations. Classmates often become one another’s biggest supporters and sources of encouragement throughout the challenging journey.
Life Outside of the Classroom
When she isn’t studying, Lindsey enjoys spending time outdoors, especially hiking or fishing.
Words of Wisdom
A piece of advice that has stayed with her since high school is to never settle short of your dreams. She continues to live by this principle today.
For high schoolers considering a career in pharmacy, Lindsey recommends giving the profession a chance. Shadow a local pharmacist or talk to someone in the field to gain insight. Pharmacy is a dynamic, growing profession with limitless opportunities, and she is excited about the future it offers.
